The Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD) is a not-for-profit specialty asbestos clinic devoted to healthcare, research, and outreach to benefit all people impacted by exposure to Libby amphibole asbestos. This organization evolved in 2000 as a response to raised awareness of widespread asbestos exposure in Libby, Montana. |

Annual screening is recommended for anyone exposed to asbestos. Having an asbestos exposure greatly increases a person's risk of developing lung cancers and respiratory disease. Annual screening is the best way to manage this risk because early detection leads to improved treatment outcomes. Asbestos exposure also involves a latency period before disease develops. With asbestos exposure and disease, this latency period can be as long as 40 years. Thus, annual screening is necessary and highly recommended as disease may develop despite a clean bill of health in previous years.
|
Health screening is an all-inclusive screening that will result in clear health outcomes as opposed to uncertain screening results that would merely refer people to see a doctor for further evaluation. Health screening includes a complete breathing test (called a pulmonary functioning test or PFT which has 3 parts), an x-ray, a chest CT scan if the doctor feels it's needed, and an evaluation by a doctor (who is educated and experienced in recognizing Libby amphibole asbestos diseases). This complete health screening will result in a diagnosis and treatment plan if asbestos related diseases are identified.

You can get screened for FREE by utilizing the CARD Screening benefits or if you are unable to travel to Libby, you can utilize the Libby Asbestos Medical Plan (LAMP) annual asbestos health screening benefit.
